GarageBand Basics
Trimming
This tutorial will take you through how to record your vocal track in Garageband without bleed from the Guide Track or click. Do not record anything until you have watched the video and adjusted your settings. Any project submitted with bleed will have to be redone.
SUBMITTING SOLO AUDITIONS
Make sure you create a BASIC AUDIO TRACK. Do not use an effect or filter. Your track should be titled Audio 1 by default. Don't change the voice setting.
If you don't have an external mic, make sure you are very close to your computer's built-in mic. Again, check your level to ensure you are getting a nice wave form.
Your waveform should look like the third example in the screenshot. Get close enough to the mic and do a test to be sure you are getting a good level, but remember, an external mic will always produce a better quality audio. |
1) Navigate to the ACADEMY SINGERS CLASS FOLDER in Dropbox.
2) Navigate to the Song you wish to record. Find the Folder named SOLO REHEARSAL and in that folder you will find a rehearsal track and a Solo Recording track. Be sure you select the Solo Recording Track for your Garageband Project.
3) Create a new Garageband project, title it with name of song and your last name. Drag the solo recording track from Dropbox into the project. Set up your solo tracks and record. Record only the primary sections of the song you choose to submit.
WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SHARE.
1) Go to SHARE at the top of your computer screen and select EXPORT SONG TO DISK.
2) Name your song "Song TItle_Name_Chorus 2" or whatever appropriately describes your submission and select where you want to save your file. Desktop is usually a quick and easy place.
3) Hit EXPORT
NOW YOU ARE READY TO UPLOAD YOUR FILE to the FILE REQUEST LINK
1) Navigate to the ASSIGNMENTS TAB on the AcademySingers website.
2) Find the appropriate FILE REQUEST link for the song you want to submit.
3) Click the link and drag your file into the folder.
If you have ANY questions about this process, please email me to arrange a time where we can help you get started. Once you get the hang of it, it is pretty simple. We will continue to work more on this in class.
