SELLING CDs/Download Cards

Download Cards
This year, you will have the option of selling CDs or Download cards (maybe), whichever your buyer prefers.  Many people no longer have access to a CD player, so in addition to selling some CDs, we will also sell download cards (stickers) with our cover art for $15. The download card has a download code which can be entered at CDBaby.com and the album can be downloaded to the buyer's music library.  I imagine most of your friends will prefer this method. However, many of your buyers may want a good, old-fashioned physical disk. We will take a poll in class to see if you prefer one delivery over another.

A Serious Responsibility
Recording a project like this is wonderful opportunity that we should not take for granted! The school invests a great deal of money providing you with this unique experience, and it would be appropriate for you to thank Mr. Masters when you see him. However, the school does not cover the entire cost of this project. We need to demonstrate that we are willing to do our part to help defray costs by selling as many CDs/Download Cards as possible. The privilege of recording a professional CD of this quality comes with the responsibility of selling 29 CDs/Download Cards for $15 each. This does not begin to cover the cost of the record, but is a good faith demonstration that we are willing to go the extra mile to have this unique opportunity. Start making your lists now of friends and family members who may buy a CD from you. This sales and marketing effort will be part of your fourth quarter grade.
Everyone is expected to sell 29 CDs/Download Cards.

What Are Download Cards?
Some of your customers may not know what a download card is. Here is a description from the CD Baby website:

CD Baby offers download cards / stickers which may be printed in a variety of styles and then distributed directly to fans. Your fans use the unique code on the back of the download card to download your release from CD Baby. They're the perfect merch item for fans who prefer digital music; and they’re great for promotion. You can use them like a business card or slip them in your vinyl record sleeves to offer a download with the record purchase. These cards never expire.

The download card redemption link can be found on the home page of CDBaby.com. Customers who redeem a download card will be instructed to create a CD Baby account or checkout as a Guest. All downloads will be stored in their CD Baby account or, if Guest, can be accessed using the Sales Order information provided in an email receipt. If a customer chooses to share information, you will be able to see their name and email address in the CD Baby download sales information in your Sales & Accounting section.

Major 4th Quarter Assignment
Remember....each of you committed to selling 29 CDs or Download Cards for $15 each in order to make this project a reality. This is not a mild suggestion. This is a requirement!  and you should begin developing a list of potential buyers. It is not easy to sell 29 CDs/Cards, and it will take a planning and organization on your part to get the job done! Your 4th quarter grade will be largely based on how many CDs/Stickers out of 29 you sell. You also have the responsibility of marketing yourselves for the Performing Arts Showcase at Rocketown. We need to sell 300 tickets. This is not a time to be modest about how incredible the concert or the CD is going to be. Invite your friends and neighbors early. They will want to support you. This is a unique opportunity and a unique live event.
